History
Initiative to create the wholesale market serving Warsaw region was brought up by Polish gardeners and farmers associated in Polish Gardening Association as well as the shareholders of the companies Agro-Best Sp. z o. o. and Giełda Ogrodnicza Sp. z o. o. (Gardening Market Ltd.). They turned to Ministry of Agriculture and Food Economy drawing attention and gaining their interest, in results of which the Ministry worked out the Government Program for Building the Wholesale Markets and Agricultural Commodity Exchanges. The main program goal was to improve the wholesale turnover of agricultural-food products and adapting it to the European standards. In 1995, deriving from the experience of wholesale markets in Europe, particularly from French Wholesale Market in Rungis: http://www.rungisinternational.com/, Wholesale Market in Bologna and Wholesale Market in Lyon, the joint-stock company has been brought to existence, named Warszawski Rolno-Spożywczy Rynek Hurtowy SA (Eng.: Warsaw Agricultural-Food Wholesale Market Inc.). For the head office of the Company, the town of Bronisze in Warsaw’s surroundings has been chosen.
